To Aaron on the Night Before He Starts Preschool

Aaron,

Yesterday, I was staring down at two little pink lines that told me that I was going to be a mother; still unaware of what that title actually meant.

Yesterday, the nurse handed you to me for the first time and I was overcome with love, happiness, and an amazing need to protect this beautiful gift that God had given me; thankful that you were healthy, perfect, and here.

Yesterday you called me Mama for the first time and we went to Mommy and Me classes, story times, and the playground. We played with Play-Doh, played Candyland, and built more train tracks than I could count.

Yesterday, this day seemed so far away, but four years have passed more quickly than I could have ever imagined. I have been there for all of your firsts; first foods, first steps, first words, but it is time that you start experiencing some firsts on your own because tomorrow is your first day of preschool.

Tomorrow you are going to be a student for the first time. You will meet your teacher and the children with whom you are going to experience this journey. You will learn and play and be challenged in so many new ways. I am so excited to see what you can do, to hear all about your day, and to watch you take this next step, but when we are walking to your classroom, and I am seeing you off on this new, fantastic adventure, please don't run in too fast, because for Mommy it still feels like it's yesterday.

Love,
Mommy

Oh Amy. This made me cry! But I have to tell you this: Aaron has been a student from the beginning and you have been his teacher. That's one of the reasons he such a brilliant child!
